
About Paul
Paul Mariano is a native of Boston, Massachusetts, where he graduated from
Boston Latin School, the oldest public high school in the nation. Mr. Mariano
served with distinction in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970. After
completing military service, Mr. Mariano attended California State University
at Sacramento, graduating in 1973. He then received his juris doctorate from
Hastings College of Law in 1976.
Mr. Mariano joined the Contra Costa County Public Defenders Office in 1977. In
addition to being a prolific and successful trial attorney, Mr. Mariano has
been a leader in providing training and mentoring for other attorneys in the
Department and throughout the state. Mr. Mariano currently supervises the
Client Services Division of the Department.
Mr. Mariano has one daughter, Michelle. Because of Michelle's deafness, Mr.
Mariano has had a long involvement in advocating for the rights of the hearing
impaired.
